Find hero dirt and high fives in the birthplace of BC’s freeride mountain biking scene. With the scent of ponderosa pines and sagebrush hanging in the air, the bumps on the trail are a nudge from nature to head out for a free wheelin’ adventure. Kamloops’ trail network, spanning four cross-country zones and three downhill riding areas, is the stuff mountain biking dreams are made of. No matter what you like to ride, there’s a trail with your name on it. In fact, there are 270+ bike trails, each with its own personality and playful features.

Trails with room to roam

From thigh-burners and drops to berms and kickers, Kamloops is a mountain biking nirvana for the cross-country rider. Regardless of your skill level and style, you’ll find something to shred. The Pineview Valley Trail Network features 50km of flowy beginner and intermediate trails through the pine forest. Roll through the sage-speckled grasslands of Lac Du Bois, featuring 20km of mellow trails. Stake Lake ranges from green double-wide trails to advanced black diamond singletrack through steep, techy terrain. Kenna Cartwright’s 40km of accessible trails delight with spectacular views of Kamloops and the rolling Thompson foothills (hint: sunset rides are epic).

Get your downhill thrills

The main reason we climb hills is to ride down them, right? Kamloops’ downhill mountain biking scene delivers on the gravity-fueled fun. A favourite on the BC bike park circuit, Sun Peaks features 83km of lift-accessed, machine-made goodness with great dirt and exquisite technical design. “The Ranch,” an iconic 26-hectare riding area accessed by shuttle, has a new all-wheels pump track, jump and skills parks, stadium lights, and good vibes. Continue on to the pedaling paradise of Harper Mountain, a self-serve access zone with 13 thrilling descent trails.

Raising little rippers

Head out on the Kamloops bike trails and you’ll find plenty of little rippers with their parents in tow. There are a number of family-friendly trail areas, including KBRA Progression Zone at Dufferin Park, the brand new All Wheels Pump Track, and Lac du Bois area, or “Batch” as the locals call it. The KBRA kids league introduces kids aged 7-13 to the joys of biking and helps them progress along the way. Let’s face it: after a certain point, the kiddos can beat us down just about anything.

Fall is the coolest time to ride

Here, space is plentiful and crowds are few. And, the trails flow as smoothly as the ancient lava that formed this land. Fall is a prime time to beat the heat and our vast easy-access trails are in prime shape. Check your pulse on challenging slabs and freestyle jumps, or wind along desert benchlands, looking out over golden grasslands and sparkling lakes.
