The BOLD Street Team has been hard at work this summer inspiring others to have remarkable experiences in Kamloops! Tourism Kamloops’ Visitor Servicing Strategy has proved successful in increasing meaningful engagements with visitors and the community. By meeting visitors where they are, rather than waiting for them to come to us, our team has elevated the visitor experience in a variety of ways.
In the last few years, our visitor servicing approach has shifted from a brick-and-mortar visitor centre to a fully mobile and digital model. Our team pops up with our branded booth and vehicle all over Kamloops, including at the BC Wildlife Park, Kenna Cartwright, Peterson Creek, Riverside Park, and many other locations. They have also been present at all the major events so far this summer, from Memorial Cup to Hoops in the Loops to Overlander’s Day. On Canada Day alone, the team interacted with over 500 people to answer questions and provide recommendations of awesome things to do in Kamloops.
In addition to our pop-up booth, the BOLD Street Team has experimented with other strategies that delivered significant engagement numbers. A roaming strategy in high traffic areas, such as downtown and at Riverside Park, has enabled our team to collect more data from thousands of visitors and locals, including net promoter scores.
New this year, Tourism Kamloops has teamed up with Rocky Mountaineer to offer on-site visitor servicing to their guests at accommodation partners throughout the city. By initiating conversations with these guests, our BOLD Street Team has increased our visitor interactions by an order of magnitude from last year. Most nights, they are helping anywhere from 100 to 200 guests to inspire memorable experiences during their stay and encourage future visitations.
This July, Tourism Kamloops officially opened the Loops Explorer Station. This shipping container, visitor information kiosk, aims to add vibrancy to the downtown core and act as a stationary location for folks to discover everything this amazing city has to offer. Our team has reported an increase in positive interactions from locals and visitors alike. Come find us at 354 Victoria Street.
Between May and June, our BOLD Street Team has doubled their visitor engagement numbers, from 2293 in May and June of 2022 to 4592 during the same timeframe this year. Additionally, these conversations primarily revolve around experience in Kamloops, rather than other destinations, resulting in meaningful interactions driving visitation and support for our local tourism economy.
Tourism Kamloops’ commitment to supporting the tourism industry does not stop with visitors. Our knowledgeable visitor serving team is half comprised of current and graduated tourism students from Thompson Rivers University. Through working with Tourism Kamloops, these students gain valuable work experience and get to network with local stakeholders to jumpstart their careers.
