Our BOLD Street Team delivered big results this summer with over 7,000 face to face interactions with visitors. Through regular pop-ups throughout the city, the team inspired visitors and locals to explore all that Kamloops has to offer.
With a glimpse of normalcy to visitor traffic, our team set up pop-up booths at various locations all summer long to provide a helping hand to visitors, locals, and other stakeholders.
Between May and August 2022, the BOLD Street Team served 7,295 visitors face-to-face and provided 700 hours of face-to-face visitor servicing support. Additionally, they also provided 1,210 hours of digital support through phone, email and social media responses. These numbers were consistently higher than the average visitor centre in British Columbia. Additionally, the BOLD Team had a high engagement rate with locals in addition to visitors (66% locals to 34% visitors), many of which had recently moved to Kamloops in the last year and were excited about exploring the city.
These pop-up locations proved to be very effective in reaching both visitors and locals, resulting in over 100 visitor interactions per day. Some of these locations included the following:
- Wednesday & Saturday Farmers’ Markets
- Kweseltken Farmers & Artisan Market
- BC Lions Fan Fest
- Canada Day at Riverside Park
- Kamloops International Buskers Festival
- Overlanders Day on the Shore
- Hot Nite in the City
- Canada 55+ Games
- Pride in the Park
- Thompson Rivers University Back-to-School BBQ
The interactions at the booths proved memorable for both visitors and the team. Here is what some of the visitors had to say about their experiences. (Source: Google Reviews)
- “Jessica and Max are the perfect ambassadors for Tourism Kamloops! I rode my bike up to the pavilion during Music at the Park and they were happy to hand out stickers and any swag they had left (proud local Kamloops guy here). Beyond that we all chatted and spoke about school etc... The team is amazing and tourism Kamloops is spot on with their location. I enjoyed the Dixie Chicks cover band and these 2 only added to the night. Keep up the great work!”
- “The representative was very helpful! The internet connection was slow; but she used her cell phone to do research for me. In my opinion, she went above and beyond!!!”
The interactions the team is having with guests at events and in the community are proving extremely valuable and solidify the decision to move to a mobile model. Many DMO’s in the province are successfully transitioning to visitor experience teams like the BOLD Street team. We are encouraged not only by our stats and the stats of our peers but moreso the positive engagements we had this summer.
The BOLD Street team continues to service visitors digitally and through social engagements throughout the year. You may also see the team at various events in the coming months such as the Kweseltken Artisan & Farmers Market, Kamloops Blazers Hockey Games, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and more.
