Join us for the second annual Kamloops Black Film Festival, proudly presented by the Valid Dreams Foundation and the Kamloops AfroFilms Society.

From Feb 1 – 2, 2025, the festival will feature films from the Black community that redefine narratives around Black identity and culture, offering powerful insights into diverse Black experiences. Alongside a thoughtfully curated selection of screenings, the festival will highlight local Black talent through special events and performances.

A Wrinkle In Time (2018) at 2:00pm
After the disappearance of her scientist father, three peculiar beings send Meg, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him.

The Color Purple (2023) at 6:00pm
A decades-spanning tale of love and resilience and of one woman’s journey to independence. Celie faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.

February 2

Love & Basketball (2000) at 2:00pm
Monica Wright and Quincy McCall grew up in the same neighborhood and have known each other since childhood. As they grow into adulthood, they fall in love, but they also share another all-consuming passion: basketball. As Quincy and Monica struggle to make their relationship work, they follow separate career paths though high school and college basketball and, they hope, into stardom in big-league professional ball.

Judas and the Black Messiah (2021) at 6:00pm
Bill O’Neal infiltrates the Black Panthers on the orders of FBI Agent Mitchell and J. Edgar Hoover. As Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton ascends—falling for a fellow revolutionary en route—a battle wages for O’Neal’s soul.
