1. Heffley Lake
Just 30 minutes from downtown Kamloops, Heffley Lake is a paddler’s paradise waiting to be discovered. Pack your board and take the scenic road toward Sun Peaks Resort, where you’ll find this stunning lake nestled in nature.
New to paddleboarding? No worries! Heffley Lake is home to Paddle Surfit, where you can find everything from gear rentals to expert advice. This local outdoor outfitter offers paddleboard rentals, lessons, and even larger excursions.
Run by certified SUP instructor, lifelong surfer, and traveller Bodie Shandro, Paddle Surfit embodies a true passion for paddleboarding. “Heffley Lake is a spectacular mountainside lake with crystal clear water, small bays, and an abundance of wildlife,” Bodie shares.

2. North and South Thompson Rivers
Beginners, take note! The calm, uncrowded waters of the North Thompson River are perfect for learning to paddle. Great launch spots include Harrington Drive in Westsyde, Tournament Capital Ranch, and Rayleigh.
On the other hand, the South Thompson River is a favourite among boaters, making it better suited for experienced paddlers. Launch from Riverside Park or Pioneer Park in downtown Kamloops, where you can also enjoy shaded spots to relax between paddles. As you head out on the river, soak in the stunning views of Mount Paul and keep an eye out for wildlife along the riverbank.
3. Paul Lake Provincial Park
Nestled at the base of Harper Mountain, just 20 minutes outside of Kamloops, lies Paul Lake — a perfect spot for scenic paddleboarding. With easy public access from Paul Lake Provincial Park, you’ll find everything you need for a great day on the water.
The park offers campsites, picnic tables, an adventure playground, and a convenient launch area. With over 12 km (7.4 mi) of shoreline to explore, Paul Lake is also a haven for bird watchers. Keep your eyes peeled for osprey, white-throated swifts, falcons, and even majestic bald eagles.
4. Kamloops Lake
Located just west of the city, Kamloops Lake is a picturesque lake to get out on the water. With rocky bluffs and hoodoo formations lining the lake, it's a go-to destination to discover secret places tucked away along the shore. While paddling keep an eye on the shores for old stone train bridges, train tunnels, balancing rock, and the towering cliffs of Battle Bluff.
Kamloops Lake is best to visit on a calm day when the winds are low, as rough waters can make for a challenging paddle. There are several easy access points for launching your paddleboard including, Bruker Marina, Cooney Bay on the North Shore or the shores of Savona. 5. Lac Le Jeune
Embark on a journey to Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park, where lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, and spruce trees create a peaceful, nature-filled escape. This gorgeous lake offers a serene setting to let go of your worries. The park provides excellent day-use amenities, including two fishing docks, a boat launch, and washroom facilities.
With a 20 km/h (12.5 mph) speed limit for motorboats, the calm waters are perfect for all kinds of watersports, from paddleboarding to canoeing and kayaking.
