If you’re a beginner Nordic skier, there could be a few Bambi leg moments, but the flips and flops will easily ignite a roar of belly laughs through your ski entourage until you all get the hang of it (and who doesn’t love an outrageous fit of laughter)? If you’re a seasoned vet, it’s a whimsical and exhilarating glide through the woods every time you go out. Whether you’re new to the sport or a skilled skinny skier, it’s a win-win, and Kamloops has a to give cross-country skiing a go.

Whether you’re new to the sport or a skilled skinny skier, it’s a win-win, and Kamloops has a few places to give cross-country skiing a go.
Want to really amp up the fun? Go in the dark. Come nightfall, lit trails offer a chance to glide under the stars. You’ll be surrounded by glistening snow-covered trees with perfectly groomed and set tracks underfoot.
The place to give it a go is located just 25 km (15 mi) south of downtown Kamloops. Overlander Ski Club at Stake Lake offers night skiing until 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and night gliders can choose from 6.5 km (4 mi) of lit trails. Take a gentle cruise around the lake on the green level Cartwheel Trail or test your skills on the blue level Lasso Trail. Night cross-country skiing is an affordable way to get out of the house during these deep winter months, with kids under nine skiing free, juniors and students $5 and adults $10. Don’t have your own gear? Don’t sweat it. The lodge offers rentals until 8:30 p.m.

Don’t Forget! What to Pack
Layers are your friend on the trails at night. Bring plenty of options to bundle up—or strip down—depending on the weather, or depending on your heart rate. For a great way to embrace the hygge between runs, pack the snacks and hot cocoa for mid-ski lodge breaks.
Most of all, bring a sense of humour for those belly laugh moments and your adventurous side for a night skiing under the stars. No matter your skill level, it’s an utterly delightful experience.
