Aviation Way is part of the 40km River’s Trail network that winds its way along the South and North Thompson Rivers. This section of the trail is particularly popular with dog walkers as it is an off-leash area. Walk along the elevated berm or if the river levels are low enough, stroll along the vast sandbar that extends down the river. This trail is ideal for those wanting a quick outing to burn off some energy or for an extended adventure alongside the river that your pooch is sure to enjoy.

During those dog days of summer, take your pup on the trails at Peterson Creek Nature Park for a refreshing dip. Named after the creek that traverses the park, Peterson Creek is the perfect spot to cool off with your pooch. From the downtown entrance, take the Tom Moore Trail towards the valley bottom where there are numerous points for your fur pal to play in the creek.

Off-leash Dog Park Etiquette

• Dogs should be comfortable and have a passive interaction with other dogs and people
• Keep a leash on your dog until you have entered the fenced park
• Owners should have voice control over their dogs
• Owners must have a leash at all times
• If your dog becomes aggressive or plays rough with  other dogs, leash them and leave immediately
• Don't bring your dog's favourite toy to dog parks, as other dogs may want to play with it. This can cause an unwanted confrontation
