Meet the Real Anne Hathaway

She married Will Shakespeare in November 1582, already three months pregnant with their first child. She raised the Bard’s children in Stratford while he became the toast of London, a celebrated actor and playwright. In her own right, she deserves to be allotted a small place in history. Anne Hathaway outlived her famous husband by seven years, and likely was never aware of the speculation that would be made about Shakespeare’s last will and testament. Almost 400 years later, we still don’t know exactly how to decipher the final desires of William Shakespeare, but certainly Vern Thiessen’s play Shakespeare’s Will gives us some wonderful theories.

On February 21st, Project X Theatre Productions will present a staged reading of Shakespeare’s Will; and the role of Anne Hathaway will be played by local actor Margaret James. Kamloops audiences will recognize James from such productions as Satie de Paris, Anne of Green Gables (where she played Marilla), Oliver, Sound of Music and Kiss Me Kate. With a strong background in Shakespearean technique and dance, James brings a unique eye and an outstanding talent to the reading. Project X is thrilled to have her join the team, and to have the opportunity to work with one more of Kamloops’ talented artists.

Shakespeare’s Will will be read, February 21st, 8pm at The Old Courthouse. Tickets ($12 for adults $10 for students/seniors), will be available at the door.
