| Tourism Growth Continues in Kamloops Friday, December 12th, 2008 |
Kamloops, BC: Tourism British Columbia has just released commercial accommodation figures for September and since 2005, Kamloops has seen overall positive yearly growth in this sector.Following up on strong summer numbers, September hotel revenues are up over 12% from the same period in 2007. Growth continues to be attributed to a strong BC economy coupled with an increased focus on marketing to the lower mainland and the region. A ‘Tank of Gas Strategy’ (TOGS) begun in late 2007 targeting family leisure vacation travel and weekend getaways proactively positioned Kamloops as easy, fun and affordable to visit. Another key generator of overnight stays is Kamloops’ strong golf product led by attention surrounding the award winning Tobiano Golf Course recently named best new Golf Course in Canada for 2008 by Golf Digest. Golf rounds were up in Kamloops for 2008 and the championship courses have garnered national attention with Score Golf magazine calling our region possibly the hottest golf market in Canada.
The increased seat capacity provided by the arrival of WestJet flights on Dec 15th creates opportunities to grow golf, leisure and meetings travel both nationally and internationally to Kamloops and the region.
