Project X Announces New Season
September 10, 2008

It’s official. X Fest 2008 is over and Project X is proud to announce their 2009 line-up. “We are thrilled to announce that, for the first time we came out of X Fest with a profit,” says Co-Artistic Director Samantha MacDonald, adding with a laugh, “not a big profit, but a profit none-the-less.” “That’s a huge testament to the support of this community,” she says, “and to the fact that people here want this festival to continue. We are incredibly grateful for that.”

Kamloops’ “other professional theatre company” had let it be known that this summer might be its last hurrah if it didn’t see bigger numbers over its two and a half week run. “We had close to 2000 people,” MacDonald says, “that’s almost 600 more than last year.”

As a result of this success, Project X Theatre Productions is pleased to announce that in 2009, X Fest will consist of Shakespeare’s Hamlet: Prince of Denmark and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard. “These are two challenging, intense and (in the case of R&G) wildly funny pieces of theatre,” MacDonald says, “and we can’t wait to get to work on them.”

For those who can’t wait until next July to see Project X in action, their production of Kicked, which originally ran in January, will be making a five-performance run during Western Canada Theatre’s Fest O’Fall, September 17 to 22, 9pm. Tickets are available through Kamloops Live! Box Office, 250.374.5483.

Also, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard, Project X will be holding a reading of The Laramie Project, on October 11, 7:30pm at the Pavilion Theatre. Tickets will be $12 with proceeds being split between the Matthew Shepard Foundation and Project X.
