To Armstrong & Bach
Tuesday, February 12th, 2008
To Armstrong and Bach is a mix of jazz, classical music and a hint of theatre with musicians spanning from Kamloops, Vancouver and New York City.

The Kamloops Jazz Society and Living Arts have joined forces for the first time to bring Kamloops this musical blend of styles as an introduction to Western Canada Theatre's jazz and classical music themed production The Satchmo Suite by Hans Böggild and Doug Innis.

This musical prelude will feature Kamloops' Dimiter Terziev, playing two Bach piano solos and Martha Guth, (a Canadian soprano from New York City and recent winner of the prestigious Wigmore Hall Song Competition in London, England) who will sing a stunningly beautiful cantata. Guth will weave voice and theatre to portray a woman washing away remorse in the struggle to accept human imperfection. The classical performance will be directed and designed by Living Arts’ Alan Corbishley in his unique and modern style of staging.

The Kamloops Jazz Society will take the stage in the second half with a jazz tribute to Louis Armstrong. Leigh Smith, a trumpet player from Vancouver, will create a jazzy atmosphere in the Pavilion with a local Dixie band comprised of Grant Porter (bass), Buddy Rogers (drums) and Dale Rasmussen (piano), all from Kamloops.

With two of Kamloops entertainment agencies weaving an ensemble of local, provincial and international talent, this show has the assurance of being a musical treat. (www.bclivingarts.ca or 571-5151 for more information)
