Wednesday, August 5th, 2009
Kamloops, BC: Kamloops has been ranked as one of the top 10 up! Magazine's Most Walkable Cities in Canada, the only index of its kind in the country, and one of paramount importance to travelers looking for the authentic side of their destination.

up! magazine, WestJet Airlines' in-flight publication, and the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine, in conjunction with an esteemed judging panel, have compiled the index that will be published in the August 2009 issue of up! magazine, complete with city-by-city ranking and details of the City of Kamloops' initiatives in making its streets a pleasure to stroll.

"We are very pleased to receive this ranking." says Lee Morris, CEO of Tourism Kamloops. "Recognition of this kind further reinforces the Tourism Kamloops' brand and the City of Kamloops' vision of providing a healthy lifestyle for its citizens and visitors."

Future annual rankings will be published every May in up! magazine, to celebrate Canadian Foot Health Month and many walking initiatives across the country.

Canada's Most Walkable Cities, presented by up! magazine's and the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine, are chosen based on the experience they provided for the pedestrian-ranging from width of sidewalks to parkland. The index will be published again next May and annually after that in a much-needed effort to recognize, celebrate and critique how Canadian cities facilitate the most basic travel of all: the one that starts with out own two feet.
