Kamloops Exhibition Association
The Kamloops Exhibition Association’s roots are in the Kamloops Agricultural Association which was founded in 1895. The original mandate of this non profit organization was encourage, assist and promote the welfare of the agricultural industry and to provide facilities for the same. In 1931 the name was changed to the Kamloops Exhibition Association with its stated purpose in line with its original mandate.
In 1971 the KXA launched the first race days at the Sagebrush Downs.
Today the Kamloops Exhibition Association operates the Sagebrush Downs race site as well as a variety of structures on the North side of the Mount Paul Centre. In addition the KXA is host to a range of events on the site.
A full roster of other events occur throughout the summer including: Team Roping, Barrel Racing events, High School Rodeo and Little Britches rodeo events, the August Pro Rodeo and Provincial Winter Fair in September.
Sagebrush Downs
Sagebrush Down is a home to fantastic high class horse racing. Featuring outstanding race horses, breeders, trainers and jockeys.
Little Britches Rodeo
In turn, Little Britches rodeo is a place for young cowboys and cowgirls to get a start in the sport of rodeo. Little Britches is a family oriented sport that benefits these young competitors in several ways including the responsibility they learn through caring for their animals, as well as the respect, camaraderie and sportsmanship they gain as competitors.
Rodeo
High School and adult rodeo events such as Team Roping and Barrel Racing, are great western sporting events which have a long history in the Kamloops area and we are proud that they are still as alive and full of adventure today as they were years ago!
Provincial Winter Fair
A fun and educational event which presents the showing and judging of animals of all sorts (including beef, lambs, llamas, rabbits, horse, and dogs). A variety of ages (from young children to teens) in Kamloops and surrounding areas belong to separate 4H clubs (the four H’s being Head, Heart, hands, Health), and on Fair day, they get together and compete according to age group and animal type. These clubs teach responsibility and what it takes to care and raise animals, the financials involved, respect, sportsmanship and showmanship in competition. Additionally, there are beautiful home arts, a craft fair, and agriculture educational displays!
