Where To Swim In Kamloops

With over 2000 hours of sunshine annually in Kamloops, the city basks in the sun, especially in the summer months. There's no better way to cool off and have some fun in the city than to go swimming.

There are many areas to go swimming in Kamloops, either in the beautiful outdoors, or indoors at a great facility.

 

Outdoor Areas to Swim in Kamloops

There are 100+ lakes and many rivers within a short drive of the downtown core. Grab an inner tube and float around for the day, or splash around with friends in the clean, clear waters. Swimming in Kamloops is a great way to let loose and just play. Here are some recommended areas to cool off in Kamloops:

> Kamloops Lake:  sparkling waters and tons of space make Kamloops Lake a top spot for swimming and other watersport activities.  The lake is 1.6km wide, 29km long and up to 152m deep, with the community of Savona on the west end of the lake and the city of Kamloops located a few miles east of the head of the lake. Kamloops Lake is also ideal for windsurfing, boating and fishing. Please note: lifeguards are not on duty.

> Riverside Park & Pioneer Park: swimming at Riverside Park  and Pioneer Park guarantee visitors a refreshing dip. Tan on the beach, go for a walk along the Rivers Trail, play in The River's Variety Kids Waterpark and take a dip in the South Thompson River to cool off. During the months of July and August, Music in the Park takes place at the Rotary Bandshell at Riverside Park where free nightly entertainment features musicians playing music from every genre. Please note: lifeguards are not always on duty.

> Overlander Beach Park: located at the base of the blue Overlander Bridge, this beach is a favourite spot for locals with miles of sand and cool clear waters where the North and South Thompson Rivers meet. Park at the Henry Grube Educational Centre to access this beach. Please note: lifeguards are not on duty.

> Prince Charles Park: this park is located in the heart of downtown Kamloops and is a great place to bring the family for the afternoon. Enjoy a picnic on the grass, let the kids play on the playground and everyone can have fun splashing around in the kids wading pool. Washroom facilities and change rooms are on site. Please Note: lifeguards are not on duty.

> Brocklehurst Pool: the pool on Kamloops' North Shore features a 25 metre 8 lane pool and a separate tot's pool for the little ones. This park is perfect for families to all enjoy the beauty of the Kamloops area and cool off in the summer months. Contact info bottom of page.

> McDonald Park Pool: set in the spectacular McDonald Park on the North Shore of Kamloops is the McDonald Park Pool featuring a 25 metre 7 lane pool as well as waterpark and outdoor playground. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it. Contact info bottom of page.

Kamloops is Canada's Tournament Capital, so it's not a surprise to have so many world class wports facilities for use by visitors, including great places to swim. In addition to the facilities below, many Kamloops accommodators have pools, hot tubs, saunas and waterslides on their properties.

> Canada Games Aquatic Centre: this is a fantastic facility for the entire family to exercise, relax and have fun! The Centre features a 50m long-course and 25m short-course pool, complete with 1m, 3m and 5m diving towers. After splashing in the pool, relax in two large hot tubs, a sauna and steam room. Children and adults alike will enjoy the 210 foot spiral waterslide, Pelican Slide, and Waterfalls.

> Westsyde Community Pool: located in Kamloops in an area called Westsyde is the Westsyde Pool. The indoor facilities are exceptional with a 25 meter 6 lane pool, waterslide, diving board, tarzan rope and weight room.   

> Kamloops Community YMCA/YWCA: located in the heart of downtown Kamloops is the Kamloops Community YMCA/YWCA. The facility includes a pool with swimming lanes, tarzan rope and diving board as well as a hot tub and sauna. A weight room, exercise rooms and childcare are also on site.
