Airport Renovations and Runway Expansion
Kamloops Airport has recently completed its $25-million airport terminal renovations and runway expansion project. Some of the renovations include:
- Runway extension is now ready for new arrivals! The new portion of the runway was officially opened, by Transport Canada, on March 13, 2009. With the extension also came two new taxiways which allows for shorter aircraft take off waiting times.
- Finishing details for the Check-in, Bag Room, Security Screening and Departure Areas. The upgrades in the Departure Lounge include 2 universally accessible restrooms, new vending area, more seating and beautiful Native art and decor. Updates were made to the Departure Lounge which now include business work stations.
- Arrivals and baggage claim areas upgrades allow passengers to claim their bags and exit the airport more quickly.
- Enhanced customs and immigration service areas. The enhancements allow for international and transborder flights to land get processed in Kamloops.
- State-of-the-art Navigational Aids will be ready for 2010. These will increase scheduled service reliability from the existing 94% to a remarkable 98%.
