Kamloops Airport in Kamloops, British Columbia

The Kamloops Airport is one the most important economic hubs in the region and plays a significant role in supporting the city’s social and economic wellbeing. Currently the airport facilitates regular air service to eight destinations in British Columbia and Alberta, including Vancouver, Prince George and Calgary.

Kamloops Airport Information

 

Airport Renovations and Runway Expansion

Kamloops Airport has been under construction the past few months, pouring $18.5 million in airport extensions and rennovations. Here is an update:

     

  • Runway extension is now ready for new arrivals! The new portion of the runway was officially opened, by Transport Canada, on March 13, 2009. The two taxiways, also included, allows for shorter aircraft take-off waiting times.


  • Finishing details for the Check-in, Bag Room, Security Screening and Departure Areas are in the works. The upgrades in the Departure Lounge include 2 universally accessible restrooms, new vending area, more seating and beautiful Native art and decor. Departure Lounge, with business work stations, will be completed by the end of May 2009.


  • Arrivals and baggage claim areas will be ready by August 2009. These upgrades will allow passengers to claim their bags and exit the airport more quickly.


  • Enhanced customs and immigration service areas will be ready in August 2009. The enhancements will allow for international and transborder flights to land get processed in Kamloops.


  • State-of-the-art Navigational Aids will be ready for 2010. These will increase scheduled service reliability from the existing 94% to a remarkable 98%.

The airport is only 10 minutes from downtown Kamloops, allowing visitors to spend less time traveling and more time enjoying the vibrant city. A 'Pilot's Lounge' has been developed by Shell Aviation for pilots of corporate and private aircraft.
