Peter's Pennies for Prostate
Radio NL 610 AM and sister stations 97.5 The River and Country 103 have teamed up with CIBC and The Prostate Cancer Foundation of BC for PETER’S PENNIES FOR PROSTATE!
Radio NL’s Morning Mayor Peter Olsen is fighting the Prostate Cancer battle. We are asking citizens of Kamloops and region to generously donate their pennies before they go out of circulation to a CIBC branch in Kamloops or any area branch. All donations go directly to The Prostate Cancer Foundation of BC to create awareness about this disease, to assist those with prostate cancer, and to help find a cure!
Donations will be accepted April 23 to June 15th at these CIBC branches:

Brass Extravaganza at Old Courthouse
On Thursday, May 17, the Old Courthouse will ring to the sounds of brass, as three local ensembles present an eclectic programme ranging from the Renaissance to the present day.
Trio Con Brio, The Court Jesters and Polished Brass will offer courtly classics by composers such as Gabrieli, Corelli and Handel, as well as modern favourites by Joplin, Gershwin and Mancini, among others.
The performance will begin at 7:00 pm.

Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis
Imagine living with a disease where 47% of Canadians dying from it are under the age of 25... “Every week, two children are diagnosed and one person dies from this devastating disease in Canada,” said Maureen Adamson, CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. “Too many young lives are cut short by cystic fibrosis; almost half of the sufferers who die do not live to see their 25th birthday. We continue to courageously invest in innovative CF research and care, but we can only do this with the generous support of Canadians. May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month and I invite everyone to champion and support our great cause.”

Kamloops Firefighters Silent Auction and Dinner @ The Dunes
Asilent auction and dinner will take place at the Dunes Clubhouse at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at the Fire Station No. 1. The Kamloops Firefighters have raised over $60,000 for Operation Haiti since 2010, which went towards building supplies and materials to build an orphanage for amputee children at Camp Mahanaim. Camp Mahanaim is run by the Wray family of Kamloops in association with Harvest International. The Kamloops firefighters have been supporting the cause for three years now. “Money raised will go towards purchasing a container, which will be filled with building material, sporting goods, clothes, musical instruments and whatever else is donated,” said firefighter Denver Bisset. 29th Annual Shuswap Lake Festival of the Arts @ Sorrento Memorial Hall
The festival showcases over 100 artists from throughout the Shuswap and surrounding areas. An estimated 300 pieces or more of artwork are on display from paintings, pottery and sculpture to photography and fabric arts.
This is a juried show . This week-long event hosts an
art workshop, live entertainment and a children\'s day from 10am-noon on Wednesday, July 18. As well, there is a spectacular gift shop including a huge selection of fine art with a price range to suit everyone. The show runs from 10am-6pm daily, except Saturday, July 21 when the show is open until 9pm and Sunday July 22 when the hours are 10am-4pm. An admission is charged for the show and workshop but there is no charge to browse the gift shop. The festival society provides a forum for Shuswap artists.

The Kamloops Kidney Walk will take place this year at Riverside Park on Sunday August 26th and will include options for Walkers, Fun Runners, and Dragonboaters in both Individuals and Teams.
The Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch will celebrate its 5th annual Give the Gift of Life Kidney Walks in August and September of 2012. In year one, a fledgling group of 7 communities successfully came together to make a difference in the lives of kidney patients and their families. In 2012, 19 communities around BC join forces to champion this extraordinary grassroots event. These walks have expanded to include dragon boat teams and even competitive runs in select communities.
